The Big Trip

An adventure, indeed. We had 11 checked bags, 3 car seats, 1 stroller, 8 carry ons, and a box of Benadryl. I had a couple of drink coupons that I was SO hoping to use, but somehow they got lost in all the stuff that belonged to us. I think at one point I asked Drew half-jokingly, "Do we have passports?"

Left the hotel after breakfast and took the Tanner to the kennel. Made it to the Colorado Springs Airport with plenty of time to spare, but unloading all the bags and children must have looked like a three-ring circus. We had 4 gate agents helping us with tags, bags, children, and security. Approximately 30 seconds after we sent Ada's car seat in with checked baggage, we realized the car seat was her BED for the 10 hour flight to Frankfurt. We smiled our brightest and asked ever so politely if there was ANY way to retrieve it.

And United Airlines came through.

Unbelievable. I actually wrote a letter thanking the whole gate crew for personally walking Drew back to get that car seat.

And 2 hours into the flight from Houston, Ada fell asleep. Sweet dreams for me. I even slept about 7 hours. Everyone slept.

We arrived about 11:00 am in Frankfurt and did the baggage drama all over again. It was funny to watch Kate push Ada in the stroller, while Drew, Ren, and I pushed the luggage carts fully loaded to the rental car. Ren couldn't see over the top of his head, so I guided him at least well enough not to hit another person or a fully loaded BMW 7 series.

We had rented the mother of all vans to get all of our baggage to the hotel in Stuttgart. And then, it hit them...
