Weekend in Nuernberg

I think all parents have a weekend that well, doesn't seem to go quite as planned. I'm not sure what we were thinking taking two sick kids on a 48 hour adventure, but we digress...

Breakfast is usually a pretty easy affair for us, but we realized things really weren't going well when neither child wanted milk or anything else to eat or drink. Our host nation is known for being a bit more reserved, but you could have heard a pin drop in the breakfast room. I swear there were 4 couples eating and I heard no talking at all. They even put their coffee cups in the saucers quietly. Approximately 6 minutes later I took Kate back up to the room and Drew followed with Ren shortly thereafter. Bless their hearts, Ren and Kate did the best they could and Kate was so wrecked that she was asleep in a stroller (which isn't common in the Miller house) by 9am when we made it to the German Train Museum. The museum, incindentally, was fabulous.

We decided to grab some food and eat in the hotel for dinner after walking a fair amount in the city. We don't often travel where were in a hotel and all together, so it was combat sleeping for Drew with Ren, who woke up a bit frightened in a strange place. Sunday morning breakfast was slightly less sporting, but thankfully we were in a larger room with fewer people. We had a few minutes of bliss at a Starbucks for coffee and hot chocolate (Kate was asleep again in the stroller at 9:30am), then after walking Ren into the ground, headed home again. The city was heavily bombed in the war, but the old city was rebuilt and is quite beautiful. Nuernberg is known for many things, including sausage (we did get Ren & Kate to eat the sausage!) and Lebkuchen, or gingerbread. We have a habit of following the food. Nonetheless, we'll try a 3 day weekend again, but with a little better planning and a lot more patience.
