A big day. The kids blissfully slept in until 8 am. Wow!
Ren, Kate, and I made it to Vaihingen for a playdate at a local park. Ren had a great time climbing on everything and Kate and I had some time for pretzels and chat. After ice cream (Kate included, of course), we headed back home for a good nap. I even caught 10 minutes, too. We cleaned up and prepared to break in the grill Drew and Ren bought for Father's Day. We chatted with a few friends and family, had a beer, and grilled some pork and chicken.
Let's say that we indeed have a carnivore for a daughter. Kate clearly was ravenous. I couldn't keep the meat coming fast enough. For the big birthday cake, we baked the same Mexican Chocolate Cake we made for Ren's first. Kate obviously approved. I think we'll be finding crumbs for weeks. We made it another first and had a Ren & Kate bath combo. What a hoot. She's the water baby and he's can't stand water on his head. Just like Dad :)
We missed our friends and family today, but had a great time remembering what a wonderful and adventurous year it has been. We're really blessed.
