Ok, we realized several weeks ago after Kate asked for the 'fairy princess dress' that our children have never seen Neuschwanstein, supposedly the inspiration for the Disney castle. We finally headed out yesterday morning for a day trip as we weren't able to line up a hotel. Of course, the Americans in us thought "wow, it's a shorter distance than picking up someone at the El Paso airport from Fort Davis". Then again, the Americans-living-in-Germany in us thought "wow, we can't imagine making a trip like that all in one day"....
Needless to say, it was a long day. It seemed as if three quarters of the German, Dutch, Belgian, and French population was returning from their Christmas vacations in Austria and South Tirol (Italy) and it took us 4+ hours to drive down there (should have been about 2 and-a-half).
After all was said an done, and we decided to hike the hill up to the castle instead of riding the horse coach (line was about 45 minute long), the kids had a great time, the princess castle was wonderful, and we had a wonderful day!
